  • Someone please dial down the crazy.

This past week was busy.  I worked 6 out of the last 7 days giving me a whole new respect for the working mom.  It was a good week, just very tiring.  Blake has a great time with his babysitter (she has 3 boys of her own) so I never really have to worry about him with a change of routine.  It's a special treat to get to play with kids close to his own age so many days in a row.

So you'd think with an entire week at work I'd have plenty to write about, but I was so tired I seem to have forgotten most of it.  I also think that our patient population has changed so much that what used to be out of the ordinary has gotten kind of routine....I guess that's a nice way of saying we see a lot of crazies.....a lot of them.  With so much crazy roaming the halls, the unusual moments become routine and quickly forgotten.  Our clinic would be a great place to film a reality show.....except for the whole patient privacy thing.....hmmm, I wonder if there's anyway to work around that?

With that being said there were a few interesting moments that stuck out....I've listed the top 5 for you if you happen to still be reading this......you must be really bored.

    5.  I had a lot of patients were were insistent of knowing the exact position of their baby, down to making me point out every finger and toe so they knew exactly what they were feeling.  One lady actually got angry when her baby moved and wasn't in the same position anymore....like, really mad.....I just did a lot of nodding and smiling with her....it seemed to appease the crazy a little bit.

    4.  Many people tested the new security system (see two posts ago) which provided endless minutes entertainment for me....I may have even done some taunting.....

    3.  One lady walked in, took one look at me and exclaimed "wow you look like you're going to deliver any minute, you're HUGE,"  causing me to turn bright red and tear up a little. So I did what anyone would do in my position, I told her she was having a girl when really it was a boy.....ha, ha, take that lady!  (Just kidding I would never do that....well, I would only do that if I was a temp and they couldn't track me down later.)

    2.   For about the 300th time in my nearly 10 years in this job I had to break up 3 different couples who decided that my ultrasound room is a good  place to start making out.  Yuck.  I have no idea why this phenomenon happens but it does....more often than you'd think.  Apparently they fell asleep in 9th grade biology and didn't realize that they could stop now, she's already pregnant for Pete's sake!  I actually had to throw an elbow this week....it was ugly.

    1.  And finally, the cherry on top of the sundae that was my week came when a patient tried to punch me.  Of course with all the crazy I've had to deal with in the last 10 years this is hardly the first time I've been swung at.  I'm just usually more agile than I am now because she almost got me.  Poor thing had just gotten some really horrible news about her baby and I made the mistake of touching her arm when asking her a question.  I should have known better, especially with all the profanities she was flinging my way.  Touching her probably wasn't the best judgement call I've ever made.  Poor lady.

So that's it.  This week is back to normal.  Hopefully there will be a little less violence and a bit more sanity in my life......at least until I need something else to blog about.  Oh, and kudos to you working moms (especially those of you who are pregnant with little kids at home) you deserve a medal!
